Local notes

The superyacht list here runs from 35 to 56 metres — Sunseeker's 115 and Riva's 130 at one end, Oceanco's The Wellesley and the 50-metre Philip Zepter build further up — with 36 vessels in total and day rates starting at €5,000. Guest counts on this size of boat tend to sit around 12, which is less about square footage below deck and more about how many people a captain and crew can comfortably run tenders for once you're anchored off rather than tied to a quay.

Most of these yachts don't take a berth at all. Nouveau Port has limited space and superyacht owners here more often anchor out in the Gulf, five to twelve metres of water south of town, and use a chase boat to ferry guests ashore or across to Pampelonne for a beach club lunch at somewhere like Club 55. It's a different rhythm from a marina stay: no gangway, no quay traffic, just tender runs on your schedule. A half-day run south to Cap Taillat or Baie de Briande works well on this class of boat too, water clear enough to swim from the stern before turning back for a late-afternoon anchorage and a sunset that plays out over open water rather than a harbour wall.

July and August fill the Gulf anchor field early — boats are settled into position by mid-morning — so timing matters more than it does in June or September, when the same water is calmer and less contested. Fuel and provisioning briefings differ by route: a day spent at anchor off Saint-Tropez burns little, while a passage out toward the islands adds meaningfully to both. Worth asking about directly before you fix dates, since it changes the shape of the day more than the choice of yacht does.
